O Steve Wiebe, γνωστος μας απο το εξαιρετικο φιλμ-ντοκυμαντερ King Of Kong (αξιζει πραγματικα να το δειτε) - πρωην κατοχος του παγκοσμιου ρεκορ στο Donkey Kong - θα ξαναπροσπαθησει να παρει τη πρωτια στην επερχομενη E3 (2 Ιουνιου 2009) και μαλιστα η προσπαθεια του θα μεταδωθει ζωντανα απο το G4.com!

Μιλαμε για φοβερη φαση!

Steve Wiebe to Attempt Reclaiming Donkey Kong Crown at E3King of Kong's geek celeb will appear on live TV on June 2.

Steve Wiebe, the Donkey Kong player made famous in the film The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, will be making another attempt at reclaiming his top score record on June 2. But this time it will be nationally televised, live on G4 from this year's E3. Twin Galaxies, also from the movie, will be at the event to provide both the Donkey Kong arcade unit and to record Wiebe's score.

Εγώ με τον Steve είμαι. Ο Μίτσελ είναι ψωνάρα, και τουλάχιστον στο Donkey Kong το κράτησε με μαμουνιές την πρώτη φορά.

Δυο μηνες πριν την προγραμματισμενη του προσπαθεια καταριψης του high score στο Donkey Kong στην επερχομενη Ε3, ο Steve Wiebe μολις εσπασε το ρεκορ στο Donkey Kong Jr κατα 106,800 ποντους! (1,139,800 )

Δεν τα καταφερε ο Wiebe. Eφτασε πολυ κοντα, ειχε και ατυχιες (διακοπη ρευματος!) εκανε και σαλτο 3 βαρελιων αλλα το ρεκορ του Mitchell παραμενει...

While E3 is generally a time of great joy in which the triumph of the human spirit is on display at every video game booth, for old-school video game legend Steve Wiebe, this year's E3 will forever be tinged with the bitter regret of having failed to earn the World Record at Donkey Kong.
Wiebe, whose previous Donkey Kong record attempts were chronicled in the documentary The King of Kong, was only around 60,000 points from the record in his heroic fourth and final E3 2009 game when he hit Donkey Kong's kill screen and was forced to give up the lives he had left. The final score: 989,400.

All of Wiebe's attempts were broadcast live on G4, including the tragic third try, where a power failure forced cyber-athlete Wiebe out of the game. Wiebe seemed to take the defeat graciously, like a true champion, and I have no doubt he'll be back again to challenge that accursed gorilla and his barrel-flinging ways...not to mention current record-holder Billy Mitchell.

Hank Chien, a plastic surgeon from New York (pictured below), has just beaten both "stars", breezing past Mitchell's mark to record a score of 1,061,700. His record has been officially verified by gaming authority Twin Galaxies, with the new score set on an original Donkey Kong cabinet in New York.
