(Atari STe) Αναβάθμιση TOS με χρήση 32pin EPROMS

*** Οι πιο κάτω πληροφορίες αφορούν μόνο τον ATARI STe με 22pin sockets για τις TOS roms!!! ***

Σήμερα στο σπίτι ενός φίλου έγινε αναβάθμιση του γερμανικού 1.06 TOS (2x28pin masked Eproms σε 32pin sockets, περίσσευαν δηλαδή 4 pins σε κάθε socket) του Atari STe μου με 1.62 UK. Χρησιμοποιήθηκαν 22pin EPROMS 27C010A-12 και φυσικά ο programmer που διέθετε ο φίλος. Στα χέρια μας είχαμε ενα αρχείο με το TOS 1.62 και 2 EPROMS. Χρησιμοποιώντας το κατάλληλο πρόγραμμα, διαχωρίσαμε την EPROM αυτή σε 2 αρχεία ODD και EVEN, ή LO και HI αντίστοιχα (όπως γράφουν και οι ενδείξεις πλάι στα sockets). Αφου "κάηκαν" και τοποθετήθηκαν, το φλοπυ σπινάριζε μεν, αλλά η οθόνη παρέμενε άσπρη και κατά τακτά χρονικά διαστήματα αναβόσβηνε σαν να έκανε reset. Μετά από ανασκαφές στο www.atari-forum.com στο οποίο βρέθηκε και το πρόγραμμα που κάνει διαχωρίζει (split) το TOS, ανακαλύφθηκαν οι πιο κάτω πληροφορίες:

I have done this mod, and it works fine. It's a really simple 10 minute job.

That's correct. I upgraded my own STe from TOS 1.62 to 2.06 by purchasing

the two EPROM chips.

Be sure to insert them in their correct sockets (they're marked "hi" and

"lo" and so is the areas on the computer circuit board).

As for the "jumpers", here's a diagram showing how it's set up with the

"old" TOS, and how it should be done with TOS 2.06.

You may also note that by connecting the two sides of the "E6 jumper pad"

on the circuit board together you'll get access to an extra option in the

desktop "format disk" menu- namely HD format.

You do ofcourse have to install a HD drive with the appropriate circuitry

to get this to function, but you will at least have the menu option there.

Με το Jumperομα που αναφέρεται πιο πάνω σε μπλε χρώμα και που, όπως είπα, αφορά την περίπτωση που ο Atari σας διαθέτει 32pin TOS sockets, μετά από λίγα δευτερόλεπτα θα σας εμφανιστεί η γνωστή πράσινη οθόνη του λειτουργικού. Υπόψην ότι οι πιο πάνω πληροφορίες είναι οι ίδιες, είτε "κάψετε" το TOS 1.06 είτε το 1.62 είτε το 2.06. Και μιας και οι πληροφορίες αναφέρουν ως βάση το TOS 2.06, είπαμε να το "κάψουμε" και αυτό. Το πρώτο πράγμα που είδαμε με τη χρήση TOS 2.06, όταν ανοίξαμε τον Atari, ήταν το logo της Atari. Το δευτερο και ευχάριστο μήνυμα ήταν τα 4096ΚΒ Ram!
Επειδή οι πιο πάνω πληροφορίες δε φαίνονται πολύ καλά, τις έχω επισυνάψει και σε TEXT αρχείο.

Καλό "κάψιμο"...

Χρήστο έχω ακούσει για ασυμβατότητες με διάφορα προγράμματα/παιχνίδια, γι'αυτό. Πάντως το 2.06 το έχω πρόχειρο και ανα πάσα στιγμή το πετάω επάνω. Δοκίμασα και το Supertos, αλλά ενώ στην αρχή ξεκίνησε καλά με το λόγοτυπο, πήρα ένα μήνυμα του στυλ "Bad CRC on IC chip 0" (κάπως έτσι), μετά μέτρησε σωστά τη μνήμη και μετά εμφάνισε τις γνωστές βόμβες και... μέχρι εκεί . Ισως να χρειάζεται άλλο τζαμπέρωμα, δεν ξέρω.

Ναι, ΟΚ, άκουσες για ασυμβατότητες, αλλά ο ST έχει 5000 παιχνίδια, και δεν τρέχουν το 10% από αυτα, τα περισσότερα δε που δεν τρέχουν είναι unplayable crap, ή bad cracks. Προσωπικά προτιμώ τα automation ή d-bug cracks.
