"This might be the smallest Nintendo GameCube ever made, and it’s running on real Nintendo hardware.
The Kawaii takes an actual Wii motherboard and somehow shrinks it down into a keychain-sized, fully functional system. No emulation or shortcuts.
In this video, I take a closer look at this insane build, break down how it works, and test what it’s like to actually play on something this small while showcasing the incredible work from the talented creators behind it"
Can’t Believe This Is a REAL GameCube!
Nintendo Kawaii (Keychain Wii) Specifications
- 60 x 60 x 16 millimeter CNC aluminum chassis (various colors— early renders showcase blue and pink)
- Undervolted OMEGA trim of the original Wii mainboard
- 12-pin magnetic pogo pin connector, inspired by MagSafe
- Internal breakout PCB for video muxing, input protection, and SD-USB functionality
- Dock with USB-C power, 4 GameCube controller ports, composite and component video output, and stereo audio output
- Six acrylic windows (tiny, around the Kawaii logo) for RGB lighting
- Attached keychain loop
The Kawaii isn’t a self-contained console. It has an elegant docking method, though, with discrete pogo pins.
The dock actually looks larger than the keychain, and then you’ll need the hefty GameCube controller, a USB power brick, two sets of dongles, and a TV to plug it
"The chipset inside this tiny device generates so much heat that you need an external fan to keep it cool, but it's nonetheless an amazing achievement."
