MORTAL KOMBAT (1992)(Arcade, Mega Drive, SNES, Mega CD, Amiga, Game Boy, Game Gear, Master System, PC)

No of characters: 7

Bosses: Goro and Shang Tsung

The original game took arcades by storm with its digitised characters taken from footage of real human actors (and one stop-motion puppet, Goro). It was notorious for its gory fatalies (though the Nintendo versions were far tamer).

MORTAL KOMBAT 2 (1993)
(Arcade, SNES, Mega Drive, Game Gear, Master System, Game Boy, Amiga, PC, 32X, Saturn, PlayStation)

No of characters: 12

Bosses: Kintaro, Shao Kahn

The sequel raised the bar by nearly doubling the number of playable characters and introducing two new types of finishing moves: the demeaning Babalities, in which your opponent is turned into a baby, and Friendships, in which your character attempts to bury the hatchet instead of plunging it in their face

MORTAL KOMBAT 3 (1995)
(Arcade, Mega Drive, SNES, Game Boy, Game Gear, Master System, PlayStation, PC)

No of characters: 15

Bosses: Motaro, Shao Kahn

As well as a fourth new finishing move - the Animality, in which the player turns into a glowing animal and mauls their opponent to death - Mortal Kombat 3 introduced two new gameplay elements: a Run button and the ability to chain combos together.

ULTIMATE MORTAL KOMBAT 3 (1995)
(Arcade, Mega Drive, SNES, Saturn, DS, iOS, PC)

No of characters: 22

Bosses: Motaro, Shao Kahn

An updated version of Mortal Kombat 3 was released later that year, offering six returning characters from Mortal Kombat 2 (including the sorely missed Scorpion) and a seventh, brand new character: red ninja Ermac.

MORTAL KOMBAT TRILOGY (1996)
(Nintendo 64, PlayStation, Saturn, PC)

No of characters: 37

Bosses: Motaro, Shao Kahn

Rather than a compliation of the first three games, Mortal Kombat Trilogy was one massive game comprising almost all the characters from Mortal Kombat 1-3. For the first time the bosses Goro, Kintaro, Motaro and Shao Kahn were playable, and ninjas Rain (purple) and Noob Saibot (black) became playable for the first time.

MORTAL KOMBAT 4 (1997)
(Arcade, PlayStation, Nintendo 64, Game Boy Color, PC)

No of characters: 15

Bosses: Goro, Shinnok

The series went polygonal for the first time and also introduced a weapon system. Using a button combination players could pull out a weapon: if it was dropped, their opponent could pick it up and use it. Other items scattered around the arena, like rocks and severed heads, could also be picked up and thrown

MORTAL KOMBAT MYTHOLOGIES: SUB-ZERO (1997)
(Nintendo 64, PlayStation)

No of characters: 1

Bosses: Quan Chi, Shinnok

A horrendous side-scrolling platformer using the Mortal Kombat engine. Player take Sub Zero through a number of stages as he seeks an amulet for the sorcerer Quan Chi. Countless cheap traps and fiddly two-on-one fights meant it was universally panned.

MORTAL KOMBAT GOLD (1999)
(Dreamcast)

No of characters: 23

Bosses: Goro, Shinnok

This Dreamcast-only enhanced version of Mortal Kombat 4 came with six new characters, additional stages and a new weapon select mechanism. However, it also introduced a bunch of new bugs and glitches, forcing developer Eurocom to release a '2.0 version' the following month. As this was in the days before title updates, however, those who bought the game on launch were either stuck with the original glitchy version or had to swap it for the fixed one.

MORTAL KOMBAT: SPECIAL FORCES (2000)
(PlayStation)

No of characters: 1

Bosses: Kano

Widely believed to be the worst Mortal Kombat game ever, this is a 3D beat 'em up starring Mortal Kombat 2's Jax as he tries to track down the infamous criminal Kano.

MORTAL KOMBAT ADVANCE (2001)
(Game Boy Advance)

No of characters: 26

Bosses: Motaro, Shao Kahn

This GBA remake of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 added three new unlockable characters - Human Smoke, Motaro and Shao Kahn. However, the gore was toned down severely and each fighter only had one fatality and a friendship.

MORTAL KOMBAT: DEADLY ALLIANCE (2002)
(GameCube, PS2, Xbox, GBA)

No of characters: 23

Bosses: Moloch, Quan Chi, Shang Tsung

Each character in Deadly Alliance has three unique fighting styles - generally two different hand-to-hand ones and a weapons-based one - that can be switched between at will. Originally known as Mortal Kombat V, it was well received by fans even though they were upset that series regular Liu Kang wasn't playable for the first (and only) time. It also introduced the Krypt - the bonus area where countless secret unlockables could be found - for the first time.

MORTAL KOMBAT: TOURNAMENT EDITION (2003)
(Game Boy Advance)

No of characters: 15

Bosses: Shang Tsung, Quan Chi

The GBA version of Deadly Alliance was split into two games, each containing a completely different character roster. As the second game Tournament Edition had to make do with the less popular fighters, three new characters - Sektor, Noob Saibot and Sareena - were included to make up for it

MORTAL KOMBAT: DECEPTION (2004)
(PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube)

No of characters: 26

Bosses: Onaga

The sixth main MK had a number of interesting new features, including interactive stages with instant death traps. A new hara-kiri suicide move was also introduced, in which defeated players could take their own lives at the Finish Him stage to prevent their opponent performing a fatality. Former bosses Goro and Shao Kahn were added to the GameCube version to make up for its lack of online play,

MORTAL KOMBAT: SHAOLIN MONKS (2005)
(PS2, Xbox)

No of characters: 4

Bosses: Shang Tsung

Another attempt at making a worthy Mortal Kombat spin-off, this adventure game followed Liu Kang and Kung Lao (joined by Sub Zero and Scorpion) as they try to stop Shang Tsung taking over Earthrealm. Unlike other MK spin-offs it was met with positive reviews.

MORTAL KOMBAT: UNCHAINED (2006)
(PSP)

No of characters: 30

Bosses: Onaga

The PSP port of Mortal Kombat: Deception featured all the characters from the GameCube version as well as four new additions - Blaze, Frost, Jax and Kitana - who returned from Deadly Alliance. Although the addition of an Endurance mode meant it seemed like the definitive version, long loading times between fights made it a hassle to play.

MORTAL KOMBAT: ARMAGEDDON (2006)
(Wii, PS2, Xbox)

No of characters: 63

Bosses: Blaze

Bringing together every single character from the previous six Mortal Kombat games, Armageddon provided a ridiculous 62 characters (63 in the Wii version), making it the biggest Mortal Kombat roster to date by a country mile. A new Kreate-A-Fighter mode also let players make their own custom character should be they be so picky that none of the 63 on offer suited them.

MORTAL KOMBAT VS. DC UNIVERSE (2008)
(PS3, Xbox 360)

No of characters: 22

Bosses: Dark Kahn

As the name suggests, this crossover game takes 11 characters from the Mortal Kombat universe and pits them against 11 super heroes from the DC Comics universe. While the Mortal Kombat characters and DC villains have two fatalities each, the DC heroes (who can't be seen to be killing anyone) had two 'heroic brutalities' instead. The final boss, Dark Kahn, is a merger of MK's Shao Kahn and DC's Darkseid

MORTAL KOMBAT (2011)
(PS3, Xbox 360, PC)

No of characters: 32

Bosses: Goro, Kintaro, Shao Kahn

This complete reboot of the Mortal Kombat series was warmly received by critics and fans alike due to its vastly improved and updated fighting engine and its massively in-depth story mode. As well as four DLC characters (including A Nightmare On Elm Street villain Freddy Krueger), the PlayStaion 3 version also included Kratos from God Of War as a playable fighter.

MORTAL KOMBAT ARCADE KOLLECTION (2011)
(PS3, Xbox 360, PC)

No of characters: 41

Bosses: Goro, Shang Tsung, Kintaro, Motaro, Shao Kahn

After an HD remake project titled Mortal Kombat HD Arcade Kollection was cancelled, this standard collection comprising of the arcade versions of Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat II and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 was released in its stead. It was criticised for its numerous emulation glitches, though these were eventually fixed with patches.

MORTAL KOMBAT: KOMPLETE EDITION (2012)
(Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Vita)

No of characters: 32

Bosses: Goro, Kintaro, Shao Kahn

This re-release of the Mortal Kombat reboot contains all the DLC characters: Freddy Krueger, Skarlet, Kenshi and Rain. The Vita version, considered the definitive one (in terms of content, at least), also contains 14 exclusive Vita-only costumes

Και τελος το επερχομενο Mortal Kombat X

MORTAL KOMBAT X (2015)(PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, PC)

No of characters: TBC

Bosses: TBC

The upcoming tenth main game in the series promises more wince-inducing fatalities than ever before and a host of new characters, including Cassie Cage (the daughter of previous fighters Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade)

Άρα ποιο είναι το καλύτερο δικό σου;

To αγαπημένο μου Mortal Kombat είναι το 2ο.
