Thank you much for your interest in my current developments!
Until now, the development makes very good progress. The Hardware
is finished (and existing as a final prototype) and most of the Core Software
is also done. I am currently writing code for the USB-Stack including the most
needed Class-Drivers. USB-Storage devices are already implemented and basic HID
support is currently in development.
The network-stack was just adapted from my first network case studie known from
the Retro-Euskal in Spain.
The MP3 section has only seen some basic testing, but showed up to sound very
well, as
playing MP3-files directly from an USB-thumbdrive.
For those interested in the extended / stand-alone system basing on the
SF3 PCB (yeah..i had space for placing a medium sized FPGA and a big nice SDRAM
on the board)
i also have news: First testing with an experimental Z80 based system core
inside of the FPGA
leaded to great success. It should be no problem to implement a well featured
CPC system and/or
the OCM (OneChipMSX) core for that stand-alone-version called "SymStation".
This cores will have the same interface to the rest of the SF3, as the real CPC
would have.
A small framework for implementing further cores will also be supplied in the
hope to get
a reasonable choice of cores available. I'll open up some kind of
community-portal for
sharing documents, system extensions and FPGA-Cores around the SF3 / SymStation.
But please don't get confused by the different types of hardware i mentoined.
All them are basing on the same PCB. The difference is simply the presence of
the FPGA and surrounding components like SDRAM, VGA-DAC/Connector and
voltage-supply.
Not to forget the additional big bunch of software that is needed to
do all the stuff for the stand-alone version.
So in short we have:
The Symbiface3 which offers:
- USB with built-in two-port root hub. capable of 1,5 and 12MBits/s transfer rate
* Internal handeled protocol stack including enumeration and device driver
probing
* complete HAL to simplify accessing the different components connected
* software support to develop and dynamically upload additional class drivers
- Networking
* Standard Ethernet-interface with full duplex 10Mbits/s
* Internal handeled TCP-Stack extendable by dynamically loadable modules
* simple file-like interfaceing on the cpc/msx side
(open/close/read/write/resolveDNS)
- Sound
* MP3-Decoding and Wave (PCM / IMA-ADPCM) playback with a large 32kbytes of
playback buffer
* user loadable DSP-Software like equalizers and so on
* Passthrough and mixing of the CPC's sound output
* readback of the audio-output for capturing purposes
- Built in non volatile Memory
* 4Mbytes of flash memory accessable like any other drive provided by the
SF3 and thus supported by SymbOS
- Core
* Here too, we have loadable module support to extend the use of the SF3's
processor
The SymStation extends this by:
- FPGA
* Altera Cyclone3 EP3C10E144 ( which is big enough to have even two CPCs
inside it
)
- 16 or 32MBytes of SDRAM
- A framework will be provided to support you in writing own cores.
- Stand-alone housing made from eloxated aluminium. Handcrafted, of course
- Grafical core-selection system to choose "where you want to go today"
- Hopefully the one or the other finished core for you to play with.
Until now the integration into SymbOS covers networking (working so far) and
Mass-Storage
wich needs further testing up to now.
> - An estimation of the price ?
In this early stage, its not that easy to estimate the pricing.
But i set some restrictions to myself to have it not exceed the following limits:
Symbiface3 will not exceed the 150? line. This is, as always, dependant on the
number of built
units. If we havn't enough interrest in that device and production batches are
small, the price
may have to be corrected upwards.
The SymStation is a bit difficult to estimate. But it will never-ever(!) reach
the 250? mark.
> - When do you think it will be ready ?
This is also a very good question
If things continue to go that well, it will be
available in mid to late 2009. The Symbiface3 itself may reach production
earlier, the
SymStation will take a bit longer to get ready.
Υπάρχουν και φωτό από το πρωτότυπο, αν και δεν είναι τόσο ταχτοποιημένο. Εγώ, πάντως, I'm sold!
Νομίζω το Symstation θα το χτυπήσω... :9
