Ξενερωμα...The third Shenmue game has been announced at last! Sega is currently developing Shenmue City for Yahoo! Japan and DeNA's new Yahoo! Mobage service.
Yahoo! Mobage is a PC-based social games service that saw its grand opening today. The service was running in beta since September 21. The name combines Yahoo!'s name with the name of DeNA's hugely popular "Mobagetown" mobile service.
Shenmue City was listed by Yahoo! Japan and DeNA today as one of the premier titles for the new service. A press release from the two firms says that Shenmue City is the first entry in the Shenmue series in 8 years and will be released this Winter.
The release refers to the game as "the third entry" in the series, although this probably isn't meant to mean that it's Shenmue III.
Shenmue City will feature alongside such games as One Million Person Ambition of Nobunaga from Tecmo Koei and Persona Social from Atlus on the new service. Yahoo and DeNA say they have over 100 titles lined up, including games from Electronic Arts' Playfish brand.

Osamu Murata does not believe new game represents true intentions of creator Yu Suzuki.
Murata claims to have spoken with people at Sega who told him that Sega does not officially recognize Shenmue City. From what he's heard, the game is being made as a venture between Yahoo! Mobage and another company that was formed by Yu Suzuki.
Wrote Murata, "The Yahoo! Mobage Shenmue is not Sega. I'm not sure what will happen at the time of formal release, though. If it looks like it will sell, Sega will probably make it official."
It's doubtful that a company as big as Yahoo! would publicize an unauthorized IP, so the way I'm reading Murata's statements is that Sega has officially authorized the creation of Shenmue City, but they'll be keeping quiet about it until determining its chances of success. It's notable that the announcement only came from Yahoo! and (Yahoo! Mobage partner company) DeNA. Sega has yet to mention the project anywhere on its official site.
Το πρωτο τρελο ειναι οτι ειναι στο παιχνιδι και η Sunsoft. Το δευτερο ειναι οτι στην αναπτυξη εμπλεκεται και επισημα η εταιρεια του Yo Suzuki! If youʼre just getting caught up, Shenmue Town was originally announced as a digital PC game for the Yahoo! Mobage site — a collaboration between DeNAʼs digital Mobage Town platform and Yahoo! in Japan.
So just what is Shenmue Town? For SEGA fans back in the days of the Dreamcast, Shenmue and its sequel were high on the list of gaming priorities. The games were open-world action-adventure titles with a heavy focus on telling a dramatic story.
The Shenmue games are now famous for being some of the most expensive projects undertaken by SEGA. If youʼre having a hard time drawing up an image in your head, think of SEGAʼs newer Yakuza series as a spiritual successor to the Shenmue franchise.
New details reveal Shenmue Town to be a “gaiden” (sidestory) game set in the city of Yokosuka, which is where the first Shenmue game took place. The game is being developed by YS Net under the supervision of SEGA and published, surprisingly, by Sunsoft.
Additionally, it appears Shenmue Town isnʼt just a PC game — itʼs also a mobile game on the Mobage Town platform, although itʼs unclear as whether there will be any differences between the two versions. Like other Mobage titles, Shenmue Town is free-to-play with a micro-transaction model that relies on users buying items in the game with real money.
SEGA and Sunsoft are pushing Shenmue Town pretty hard, too. The game is being referred to as the long-awaited revival of the Shenmue franchise. The gameʼs official Twitter feed indicates that pre-registration for Shenmue Town, set to launch this winter, has already begun.
“The things I like,Cars, motorcycles, clocks, wine, paintings, billiards…
For some reason, video games arenʼt there.
Itʼs not that I donʼt like games, but I enjoy reality more, so I end up not having time to play games.
However, I like making things
I most enjoy when Iʼm making something, as there are always discoveries
Iʼd like to deliver to game players an enjoyment that is beyond the framework of games, along with new play elements.
Making [games] is fun, but the feeling of seeing the the happiness of people who play the game that we made is even more wonderful.
This is why I cannot stop making games." – Yu Suzuki

ΠηγηAt a Game Developers Conference session in San Francisco today, Yu Suzuki revealed that Sega may allow him to make Shenmue 3 in the future. The question arose from a stack of audience questions, with one audience member inquiring simply, "when will Shenmue 3 be released?"
“Well, I want to make it,” began Suzuki. “About 200 people will buy it, I think. But funding is an issue,” he said. He first cleared up a few facts about the original Shenmue.
First of all, the game was to be the Dreamcast's killer app. “We talked about a Virtua Fighter RPG," he said, "with Akira as the character we would use.”
“From the beginning, the new title without using Akira would be more acceptable,” he said, so they went in a different direction. According to Suzuki, the $70 million Sega said it cost was an embellishment. It was "only $47 million," he said. "Well, maybe I shouldn't say only," he joked.
Where did all that money go, in 1999 dollars? “We spent it on development and marketing… actually where did we spend it again?” he joked.
Getting back around to the subject of Shenmue 3, Suzuki finally stated, “Probably Sega will let me make it. I think. It's simply a problem of budget.”
